Pixel size and file size are two different limits
Form portals usually check both, and they fail an upload for either one. Pixel dimensions describe how many dots wide and tall the image is. File size describes how many kilobytes the stored file takes up. You can have a correctly sized 200 × 230 photo that is still far too heavy, because it was saved at maximum quality.
This tool handles them in that order: it scales your image to the dimensions you pick, then searches for the highest image quality that still fits under your KB limit. The dimensions are never quietly changed to make the file smaller — if the target cannot be reached at the size you asked for, the tool says so instead.
Getting a usable photo from a phone
- Light from the front. A window facing you beats a ceiling light behind you, which throws shadows across the face.
- Plain background. Stand an arm's length from a white or light wall so you do not cast a shadow onto it.
- Fill the frame after cropping, not before. Shoot a little wider than you need, then crop — it is much easier than getting the framing exact in the camera.
- No filters or beauty modes. Several portals reject visibly retouched photographs.
Does the photo stay private?
Yes. The resizing runs in your browser through a canvas element. The file is never uploaded, never reaches a server, and nothing is kept after you close the page. Turn off your connection once the page has loaded and the tool still works.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. It is resized in your browser and never sent to a server.
What pixel size is a passport photo for online forms?
It varies. 200 × 230 pixels is common on Indian exam forms, and a printed 35mm × 45mm photo is roughly 413 × 531 pixels at 300 DPI. Use whatever the form states.
Why does it say it cannot reach my target size?
With fixed pixel dimensions the tool cannot shrink the image further to save space, so a very small KB target can be impossible at that size. Raise the target a little, or choose smaller dimensions.
Does this crop my photo to the right shape?
No. It scales to the dimensions you choose. If your photo is not already close to that aspect ratio it will look stretched, so crop it roughly to shape first.
Can I use this for a visa or passport application?
For an online upload where the portal states a pixel and KB limit, yes. For a printed photograph submitted in person, follow the issuing authority's printing specification — file size is not the constraint there.
